   Company Overview

AMER-SIL S.A. is a wholly owned subsidiary of THE MOORE COMPANY, with headquarters in Westerly, R.I., USA.

Its production facilities and offices are located near Kehlen in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the heart of Europe.

AMER-SIL S.A. was founded in 1970 to produce high quality microporous PVC/Silica separators to be used in industrial lead acid batteries.

In 1989 AMER-SIL S.A. acquired the technology to produce non-woven polyester gauntlets for positive tubular battery plates.

AMER-SIL S.A. has for nearly thirty years acquired a well deserved reputation for top product quality and excellent service. It was accredited with an ISO9001 certification in 1997, and its Production/Quality/ Service Departments have been audited by major Battery Companies.

AMER-SIL S.A. maintains its position as the leading european industrial battery separator supplier and it markets its products worldwide.

1) Non-woven gauntlets for positive tubular plates in a variety of shapes
and sizes.

2) Microporous PVC/Silica separators in leaf form for industrial and heavy duty SLI applications.

   Products : PVC Separator

Description :

Made by physical ( non-thermal) fusion of stabilized long chained PVC polymer and precipitated silica.

Do not confuse with ordinary sintered PVC separators.

These materials are very pure and chemically stable. There are no organic additives that can degrade in the battery, such as mineral oils.

Kinds & Features :

A) Ribbed Separators

1. Higher porosity : The higher porosity of the AMER-SIL separators is due to the high silica content and open structure of this material.Volume porosity ranges from 65% to 78%

2. Lower electrical resistance : This characteristic is also influenced by the high porosity open material structure. It is among the lowest of industrial separators.Values of electrical resistance are highly dependent on overall thickness, backweb thickness and profile.

3. Chemical purity : The material composition is limited to two basic materials, precipitated silica and PVC-polymer. There are no additives or mineral oils or resins. The grey color is achieved by adding minute amounts of carbon black.

4. Chemical and physical stability : This comes from the chemical components and the unique manufacturing process. This type of separator does not oxidize and has excellent aging characteristics.

5. Versatility : Wide range of thickness and dimensions are possible as well as a variety
of profiles. All profiles can also be offered with glassmat lamination.

B) Corrugated Separators

1. Highest Porosity : The same high porosity Amer-Sil microporous material is further slightly stretched giving the highest Porosity. Volume porosity ranges from 69% to 78%.

2. Lowest Electrical Resistance : The only electrical resistance to electronic flow is posed by the deformed flat microporous membrane. The value of the corrugated separator electrical resistance depends on the thickness of the starting flat membrane.

3. Chemical Purity : The material composition is limited to two basic materials, precipitated silica and PVC-polymer. There are no additives or mineral oils or resins. The grey color is achieved by adding minute amounts of carbon black.

4. Chemical and Physical Stability : Chemical stability is assured by components and the unique manufacturing process. Thickness loss is limited to less then 5% up to 70%. This separator does not oxidize and has excellent aging characteristics.

5. Compressibility : The corrugated separator has the unique ability to yield under compression and keep that compression. Typical compression is 5% at 20 kPa.

6. Lowest Material Weight : A direct consequence of the absence of ribs is the elimination of a substantial fraction of separator material. The thicker the corrugated separator, the greater will be the material savings. Typical material savings are in the range of 40% to 50%.

7. Lowest Electrolyte Displacement : This characteristic reflects the lower material used to achieve a given thickness. Typically acid displacement is 40% to 50% lower.

   Products : Gauntlets

Description :

AMER-SIL non-woven gauntlets represent the latest step in the long evolution of
tubular positive plate active material retainers. For almost 100 years, these retainers evolved
from single tubes of various materials to woven gauntlets and in recent years to
NON-WOVEN gauntlets.

AMER-SIL gauntlets are created by sewing together two strips of non-woven polyester fiber fabric stabilized by hot point calendering.

AMER-SIL gauntlets are available in many tube shapes: Round tubes, Square and rectangular tubes,
Oval tubes

AMER-SIL gauntlets can also be protected against plate edge short circuits:

    - Flat edge barrier giving full utilization of both outer tubes
    - Outer tube partial sealing

Features :

1. Improved Battery Capacity and Cycle Life due to:

    - Finest Pore Structure
    - Highest Porosity and Lowest Electrical Resistance
    - Greatest Electrolyte Retention

2. Compatibility with Wet and Dry Filling methods

3. Edge Protection against lateral short circuits
